What Happens When Your Listing Expires in Raleigh, NC: A Seller’s Guide for 2026
When your listing agreement expires, your home is removed from the MLS and your agent’s contract officially ends. You’re no longer bound to that agent, and no offers can be accepted under the old agreement. As the seller, you now have a clean decision point: relist with the same agent, hire someone new, or pause while you rethink your strategy. In North Carolina, your agent is also required to provide you with a written protected buyers list, typically within a few days of expiration, which identifies any buyers they introduced to your home who could still trigger a commission obligation if they later purchase.
