Quick Tips Before You Go

Arrive early. Every event on this list draws large crowds, and parking fills up faster than you expect. Aim to arrive 60 to 90 minutes before the fireworks start if you want a good spot.

Use the shuttles. Raleigh, Garner, and Morrisville all offer free shuttle service for 2026. This is the easiest way to avoid sitting in post-show traffic for an hour.

Check the weather. July in the Triangle means afternoon thunderstorms are possible any day of the week. Every town on this list reserves the right to delay or cancel fireworks due to weather. Follow your chosen event’s official social media accounts for real-time updates. For Raleigh, text RALEIGH250 to 888777.

Know what’s allowed. Most of these events prohibit personal fireworks, sparklers, drones, and glass containers. Several also prohibit pets and alcohol. Check each town’s event page before you pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Raleigh area fireworks show is best for young kids?

Cary’s Koka Booth celebration (July 4) has the most family-friendly setup: a long afternoon schedule starting at 3:30 p.m., midway games, a Ferris wheel and carousel, and free lawn admission. The earlier start time means kids aren’t staying up until 9:30 p.m. just to see fireworks begin. Garner (July 3) is another excellent choice because the North Carolina Symphony performance builds the anticipation in a memorable way.

Is the Raleigh Dix Park fireworks show really free?

Yes. The City of Raleigh’s Fourth of July fireworks at Dix Park is free and open to the public. Parking near the park will be limited; the free shuttle from Moore Square is the recommended option. Shuttles begin at 5:30 p.m.

What makes Apex’s event different in 2026?

Apex is adding a drone show to the mix, which runs before the traditional fireworks. The drone show begins at 8:45 p.m. with fireworks following at 9:30 p.m. This is the only Triangle event on the list that includes a coordinated drone display.

Can I bring a picnic cooler to these events?

It depends on the location. Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs explicitly allow coolers. Dix Park (Raleigh) and Koka Booth (Cary) do not. Garner and Morrisville prohibit glass containers. Check the specific event page for each town’s current rules before you pack.

What if July 4 weather is bad?

Most events will attempt to reschedule within 24 to 48 hours or will move fireworks to a rain date listed on their official event page. Holly Springs on July 5 gives you a natural backup option if weather affects the July 4 shows. For Raleigh, text RALEIGH250 to 888777 for real-time weather and delay updates.
